Terrorism in Georgia by the Numbers

This course will focus on terrorism within the State of Georgia. Topics include ideologies, terrorism planning cycle, mobilization indicators, attack methodologies, applicable laws, and potential threat elements. Information will be provided on training, resources, and information reporting and sharing.
Integration of ID Teams and Strike Teams

With the increase in First-Amendment protected events, the law enforcement perspective is to protect the participants of these events, the constitutional rights of the participants, and the property of citizens. This course will focus on the use of Investigative Detail (ID) teams and their purpose and how to integrate these teams into these events. This course also covers the safety and security of these teams and how to plan for the extraction of these teams if necessary. There will also be instruction on Cover Teams and Strike Teams and their role in these events. The course will outline planning, integrating, rescue protocols, and communication during these events.
THC, Hemp, Edibles and Vapes-What You Need to Know!

This course will provide an overview of the various matrices (food, leafy material, vapes, wax) that can contain different types of THC. It will provide an in depth discussion of applicable Georgia code sections, classification of THC items into the code sections and capabilities of the GBI crime lab regarding analysis of these materials.
GBI Watchdesk Operations and GISAC Resources

The GBI-GISAC Watchdesk was created in 2018 to serve as a 24/7 operations center for tips and lead information, suspicious activity reporting, as well as a single point of access to law enforcement for intelligence information. The Watchdesk processes thousands of tips and leads, as well as threat information, each year from a variety of sources including See Something Send Something, phone tips, the GBI Tip Line, the GBI website, and a variety of other sources. These tips and leads are received from the public and from law enforcement, and the Watchdesk disseminates this information to the appropriate law enforcement or public safety jurisdiction. Law enforcement may also submit requests for intelligence information to the Watchdesk for active investigations and law enforcement operations. The Watchdesk also serves as a single point of contact to access other GBI-GISAC resources.
Body Language Interpretation

In this block of instruction, ASAC Alford presents research from experts in the field of Interviews and Body Language. Students are presented with illustrations and examples of individuals demonstrating postures and mannerisms indicative of high stress situations and deceptive behavior. ASAC Alford uses his previous experiences as a polygraph examiner to present his personal findings and research to enable students to better recognize these behaviors to lead to more successful interviews.
Garrity-Reasonableness

The lesson will cover Garrett v. New Jersey which was a case in which the Supreme Court of the United States held that law enforcement officers and other public employees have the right to be free from compulsory self-incrimination. It gave birth to the Garrity warning, which is administered by investigators to suspects in internal and administrative investigations in a similar manner as the Miranda warning is administered to suspects in criminal investigations.

Managing By Murphy’s Law. Murphy’s Law: “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong”. In life and police work, you can not absolutely prevent Murphy’s Law from happening, but a leader can manage in a way which minimizes it impact on operations. Failure to plan, failure to equip and train, failure to lead and supervise will most certainly allow Murphy’s Law to adversely effect a law enforcement agency and its leaders. This class will utilize real life examples to prepare a leader to handle Murphy’s Law.

These frameworks demonstrate how different people process organizational life from different perspectives; they are helpful in explaining the multiple dimensions of life and leadership in organizations; finally, these frames provide both intellectual and practical rails on which the law enforcement executive can make sound decisions in their leadership responsibilities.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Law enforcement personnel and first responders have double the rate of PTSD as the general population. This session will provide a general overview of PTSD diagnosis, recognizing the signs and symptoms of PTSD, factors which increase or decrease the odds of an individual developing PTSD, and treatment options for PTSD.
